Welcome
to the world of Survival Horror...
in
8-bit.
Or
not. After releasing information on this project, Capcom
decided to call it quits. Now lets make sure you understand,
this version of Resident Evil was not Resident Evil: Gaiden
for the Gameboy
Color system.
Why
was it canned? Simple. You can't make a large 3D game
into a 2D game with only one cartridge. Those that have
played the original Resident Evil for the Sony Playstation
know how large of a game this was. With the pre-rendered
backgrounds and 3D role playing characters and items around
it, it would be impossible to fit all this on one Gameboy
Color cartridge.
Besides
the way the game plays (very slow from videos seen online)
and the graphical design, how about saving the game? Item
boxes? You notice in the videos and screen shots that
there were items removed and room changes. It seems Capcom
could cut out rooms and certain graphical designs/details
to make this all fit in one small 2D cartridge. From videos
all over YouTube now, you can see that the game was completed
all the way to the battle with the Tyrant on the heliport.
When it came to the final decision, seems Capcom wasn't
happy with the project and therefore went the release
of Resident Evil for the Gameboy Color.
And
then... Deadly Silence...
